PriceLadder help
PriceLadder gives your customers a lower price per unit as they buy more. Set the tiers once, and Shopify applies the discount at the cart and at checkout. You never edit your theme code.
When you open the app, the Get started card on the home screen walks you through the steps below, with buttons that take you straight to the right place in the theme editor.
What you need
- A Shopify store with an Online Store 2.0 theme (the product page and cart must allow app blocks).
- About five minutes.
1. Create your first rule
- Open Apps → PriceLadder in your Shopify admin and select Create rule.
- Give the rule a name. Only you see it.
- Choose how the discount works:
- Volume: every unit gets the price of the tier the quantity reaches. Buy 10 and all 10 units get the 10-unit price.
- Graduated (Pro plan): each unit is priced by the tier it falls into. The first 9 units pay full price, units 10 to 49 get the next tier's price, and so on.
- Choose the discount type: percentage off, amount off per unit, or a fixed price per unit.
- Edit the quantity tiers. The first tier starts at 1, tiers must not overlap, and the last tier has no upper limit.
- Under Applies to, choose the products or the collection.
- Set the status to Active and select Save.
The price preview on the right shows what a customer pays at each quantity, so you can check your tiers before you save. Drafts are never applied, and you can create as many as you like.
2. Show the price table on your product page (recommended)
- In your admin, go to Online Store → Themes and select Customize.
- At the top, open the page picker, choose Products → Default product, and preview a product that has a rule.
- In the product section, select Add block, open the Apps tab and choose Volume tier table.
- Drag it below the price, then select Save.
The editor adds the block at the bottom of the list, so drag it up under the price. It opens on its default preview product; use the product picker at the top of the editor to preview one that has a rule. The table lists each quantity range with its price per unit and the saving. It highlights the customer's current tier and tells them how many more units unlock the next one. The table is a preview; the final price is always applied by Shopify at checkout.
3. Show savings in the cart (optional)
- In the theme editor, switch to the Cart page.
- In the cart section that allows apps (usually the subtotal area), select Add block and choose Volume savings, then Save.
The cart then shows a hint under each product (for example, "Add 2 more to unlock 20% off") and the total saved.
4. Test it
- Open your store, add a covered product to the cart, and raise the quantity past a tier.
- The discount appears on the cart line and again at checkout.
Quantity is counted per product, across all of its variants. The discount combines with your other product, order and shipping discounts.

Troubleshooting
The price table does not show on the product page
- Check that the product is covered by a rule and that the rule is Active.
- Check that you added the Volume tier table block to the Product template of the theme you are viewing.
- Older themes ("vintage" themes without sections on every page) cannot use app blocks. Switching to an Online Store 2.0 theme fixes this.
The discount does not apply at checkout
- The quantity must reach a tier above 0% (the first tier is usually 0%).
- Make sure the rule is Active and the product is in it. Changes can take a few seconds to reach the cart.
- If two active rules cover the same product, the most recently saved rule is used.
I cannot save a second active rule
The Free plan includes one active rule. Save the extra rule as a draft, or upgrade to Pro.
Uninstalling
Remove the app from Settings → Apps. Uninstalling stops all PriceLadder discounts. If you added the theme blocks, remove them in the theme editor too. See our privacy policy for what happens to your data.
